Krabi Flora
Krabi FloraIf you are fortunate enough to visit the stunning province of Krabi in south west Thailand, you will certainly be struck by the immense beauty of the lush and varied landscape. This amazing area is also home to an incredible number of exotic creatures, both large and small and witnessing them at home in the jungle, forest, coral reefs and beaches of Krabi is infinitely more satisfying than observing them in a zoo. Krabi’s wealth of national parks, animal sanctuaries and reserves make it a genuine nature lovers paradise.
Krabi has a mountainous terrain with the highest range being Khao Phanom Bencha. The mountains are liberally interspersed with highlands and fertile plains on the mainland whilst the islands, which number in excess of 150, feature iconic cliffs, mountains and verdant forests. The forests in Krabi tend be formed predominantly of dense mangrove and the prolific Cassia tree. Unbelievably, the vast mangrove forests were harvested for charcoal until only recently, but this practice has fortunately now been outlawed and there is a successful programme of regeneration underway. Mangroves actually play an extremely important role in balancing the natural environment, making it absolutely vital that they receive ongoing protection.
Krabi FloraKrabi’s rich vegetation includes many rare plants such as the vivid yellow Ron Tau Naree Krabi orchid, which also happens to serve as the proud symbol of Krabi. Blessed with a particularly sandy clay soil, the land in Krabi is perfectly suited to growing rubber trees, palms, mangos, coconuts, and coffee. Rubber and palm oil are both important agricultural products and a mainstay of the local economy, in addition of course to the developing tourist industry. Plantations of rubber and palm dominate the countryside and freshly rolled sheets of rubber hung out to dry in the warm air by local farmers is a highly familiar Krabi sight. Palm oil is used for the manufacture of cooking oil and margarine and is an integral ingredient in many of today’s most popular processed foods. There are several lovely rivers in Krabi such as the Krabi river which flows through the charming provincial capital of Krabi town, and out into the Andaman Sea at Tambon Pak Nam. Other rivers of note include Khlong Pakasai, Khlong Krabi Yai and Khlong Krabi Noi. There are some exceptionally transparent water canals at Pa Phru Tha Khlong Song Nature Reserve – here the waters are so clear that you can actually see right down to the river bed and the roots of the Lumphi Palm far below.
If you want to breathe in the astounding diversity of the natural Krabi habitat, then a great place to begin is at Than Bokkhorani National Park. This sprawling park, located in northern Krabi covers an area of some 388 square kilometres and includes dramatic limestone cliffs, thick mangrove forests, swirling rivers, tumbling waterfalls and mesmerising, emerald green pools. Or explore Hat Noppharat Thara, probably the biggest and undoubtedly the most well known of Krabi National Parks. It is mostly marine environment and therefore a favourite with scuba divers and snorkelers who enjoy the exquisite coral reefs and tropical fish, but there are also magical mangrove forests, craggy cliffs popular with climbers and peat swamps to investigate. This fascinating national park includes the famous Krabi islands of Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Le and an intriguing fossil shell cemetery within its boundaries too.

Travel in Krabi
Nourish Mind, Body and Spirit in Rejuvenating Krabi!
Phi Phi Don IslandKrabi is a beautiful province in southern Thailand and an area of colourful contrast featuring pristine Krabi beaches, tropical islands, dramatic limestone cliffs, dense jungle and a flourishing marine environment. An incredibly popular holiday resort, Krabi is renowned for its superb range of sporting activities including scuba diving and rock climbing, a mouth watering local cuisine, a rich culture and a genuinely warm hospitality.
It is also a destination of choice for Thais recovering from recent surgery or medical treatment in Bangkok. And there are a growing number of ‘medical tourists’ - foreigners from countries where the cost of health care is prohibitively high - who take advantage of Bangkok’s world class hospitals and state-of-the art medical facilities, before recuperating with a rejuvenating holiday in glorious Krabi. The smog, humidity and frenetic pace of life in Bangkok is not exactly conducive to a speedy recovery, but the perfect climate and laid back lifestyle of Krabi certainly is! A mere two hours from Bangkok by plane, Krabi boasts an abundance of superior hotels and holiday resorts that offer exceptional customer care, an impressive standard of accommodation and superb health and fitness amenities, just perfect for aiding physical rehabilitation. A delicious Krabi diet of fresh seafood and exotic fruits and a healthy dose of bright sunshine tempered by an invigorating sea breeze, is just what the doctor ordered!
Tour Krabi IslandsFor similar reasons, Krabi has become a highly fashionable spa resort, attracting wellness travellers who value nourishment for the mind, body and the spirit above all else. Spa and wellness holidays are no longer solely the preserve of the rich and famous and savvy tourists are already enjoying the benefits that the Krabi yoga retreats and Krabi massage centres have to offer. Many Krabi hotels and resorts now specialise in luxurious spa treatments, Thai massage, scrubs, wraps, yoga and other alternative and natural therapies, conducted by highly skilled therapists with a strong tradition in herbal medicine. Guests can be pampered from head to toe in five star resorts nestled in secluded bays, or can enrol in intensive yoga classes in peaceful sanctuaries that offer both awe inspiring views and spiritual enlightenment. These graceful retreats serve health conscious and nutritionally balanced menus to compliment a chosen regime and are thoughtfully designed to blend into the natural landscape, offering eco friendly accommodation that is in total harmony with the environment.
Large hotels and resorts are not to everyone’s taste however, and visitors can rent a private villa in Krabi without foregoing the salutary aspect. Fully serviced Krabi villas provide the exquisite indulgence of personal Thai massages and other health and beauty treatments conducted in the privacy of a stylish and secluded Thai home. If finances won’t stretch to a sumptuous villa or plush hotel, it’s still possible to unwind and relax in the excellent stand-alone spas found in the charming provincial capital of Krabi Town and the vibrant tourist resort of Ao Nang.
In fact whatever your budget, you can rest assured that there is a suitable spa/wellness solution for you in Krabi and that you will leave this uplifting Thai province fully recharged, both physically and mentally.

Krabi Fauna
Krabi FloraKrabi’s fauna is very special and visitors to the province can look forward to sighting a large variety of striking and colourful creatures in the numerous wildlife sanctuaries. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park boasts an extraordinary selection of animals that includes Werow, Wild Pig, Panther, Clouded Leopard, Black Bear, Mouse Deer, Gibbon, Stump-tailed Monkey, Asiatic Wild Dog, Squirrel, Iorise, White-rumped Shama, Hornbill, Pheasant and Red Jungle Fowl. And the wildlife sanctuary of Khao Pra Bank Khram is a fantastic place to catch sight of some of Krabi’s many rare and in some cases, threatened species of birds, such as Gurney’s Pitta, the Blue Rock Thrush, the Rufous-collared Kingfisher and the Black Hornbill.
Playful Langurs and Long-tailed Macaques can be routinely observed foraging for their preferred menu of fruit or crabs. Unfortunately, tourists in Krabi often feed these delightful and most entertaining of monkeys, which has made them quite brazen and they can appear relatively tame. It is important to remember though, that these are still wild animals and feeding them is harmful. Giant Monitor Lizards and River Otters are also prevalent in Krabi and there are millions of burrowing crabs that can be seen moving across Krabi’s pristine beaches in vast legions.Of course animal lovers who visit Krabi also come to see the elephants and it is indeed, a real treat to watch these gracious animals in their natural surroundings. You can opt to take a memorable elephant trek during your holiday in Krabi, but do ensure to book your excursion with a reputable company that takes good care of these gentle giants.
To arrange an unforgettable trip to one or more of Krabi’s delightful national parks, nature reserves and animal sanctuaries, talk to your Krabi villa, hotel or resort manager today!
